For actual cooling/aero if you add a hump before that intercooler (like say, one made out of a spare talon hoods timing hump) you create a low pressure zone on its back slope it and (assuming it's taller than the intercooler) it will then pull air up though the intercooler. If you made some form of basic ducting underneath the intercooler and above it up a small rubber seal to mate it to the hood, it would probably cool extremely well.

But i'm just daydreaming, thats a fair bit of commitment.

Look up the hood used in the Celica Alltrac/gt-four (after the switched from that stupid intake duct to the wider vent) and you'll see an example.

thanks for the input guys

I was thinking of pulling air from down by where the existing i/c sits, using some ducting or heat shield, and also considered active cooling with fan, as I wasn't sure how much I would have to "fight" the high-pressure area at base of windshield.

Looks like I will have to use the GM maf conversion to re-locate the air/filter/intake path...

Anyone want to trade for any parts off the shell I have listed?

regards

go speed density.  Its only a race car, so you don't have to worry about the side effects on a daily driver.

Then you can route the simple piping anywhere you want.

SD and methanol/water=no intercooler=super short piping and hardly noticable lag.  Great for rally

dang it all...too many new options :o

FWIW this car is also my DailyDriver, not just a trackster...is speed density the same as MAP (revealing my incredible ignorance here....) ???

Or is it simply a matter of unplugging the stock meter, and letting the computer just use default maps? (I've done this in a pinch when a MAF failed on me - just unplugged the connection, disconnected battery, counted to 10, reconnected battery, started car & went on m y merry way. The only problem I noticed was slightly worse mileage)

Speed density uses a map sensor and an IAT sensor, check my FS thread, lots of ppl have posted the pro's and cons of a SD setup.

http://www.bcdsm.org/forum/index.php/topic,15380.0.html  This should have all the details for you Ken on Speed Density, why you'd wanna do it and what's involved in the swap.

SD is used by quite a few BCDSM members, and a lot of people use it for a daily driver with perfect streetability.
