Hi all! Planning to build a 400AWHP Minivan!
« on: December 04, 2013, 03:00:27 pm »
Hi all,

Starting my project finally for my 1992 Expo SP 5 spd AWD.

Acquired the car back in 2006, meant to swap in 4G63T off Talon. However never got around to it and let it sit.

Now i finally have some money and time. Looking to build the car.

My plan is to build a Frakenstein using a 8V 4G64 block with 4g63 head. From my research, this 1992 Colt Vista /Expo/Summit 4G64 8V block is perfect candidate for that swap. I just need to get some pistons with 6mm lower wrist pin height, use some eagle rods, throw in a 4G63T head with all the components and I'm good to go.

Here is how the car is sitting now.

Anyone with a whole bunch of DSM parts/parts car. I also wouldn't mind an extra 8V 4G64 as back up, as the one that is in this car has been sitting for a few years. And i finally got it started back up, its only running on 3 cylinders. So I don't know whats wrong with it yet. I tried the local yards an no one has a 92 Colt vista/Summit 2.4 anymore.

I payed $400 for it many years ago.
Shoot me a offer if your interested.
I know they are hard to find.

Nice!! I had a 4g63 swappedth awd 5-sp summit van (but shorter wheelbase then the one you have, and also only had one sliding door on the passenger side.

It was sweet. Good luck with the build. There was a summit wagon (92) at pickapart last time I checked with a 2.4 engine in it. Not sure if it's a 8v or 16v tho

Thx to Travis. Parts car aquired!!

Now onto the aftermarket parts.

Ppl are reccomending Wiseco pistons with Eagle rods for frankenstein builds. Just because Wiseco already have a piston made for frankenstein builds. Anyone have opinions on goods and bads?

Next thing is clutch. When i put in the new engine, a new clutch is going in. Consensus seem to point me to ACT clutch. Again any reccomendations?

Another question is 1g vs 2g rear shocks. People have bolts 2g rear shocks onto these vans, but they are slightly shorter than oe van shocks. The parts car came with koni sport in the back. I read the 1g shocks were longer than 2g. If thats the case, and assuming it is a 1g shocks. It should work perfect for the van.

for the clutch, it depends on what you are going to do with it.  Race parts are not for the street, no matter how cool you want to sound when you tell people about it.

You want the appropriate parts that can handle the power and torque level, race parts or not.

Hey Brett,

Which pick and pull was it that you saw the 2.4?

I called ALs discount in Surrey, they used to have a ton of those Summits a few years ago. But I called them last week they laughed and said "you're still looking for parts for these cars??" lol

If you're planning on staying at stock height or close to it, stick with the 1G shocks.
If you want to go low, switch it up to the 2G. A shorter shock with be less prone to bottoming out internally if you're taking a bunch of ride height out of the suspension.

As far as clutch goes, I'll never run an ACT again after I took one out of my car in peices. I've had a SPEC clutch for a few years now and it's held up like a champ against repeated abuse.
